Bobby Dalbec Optioned to Triple-A Worcester

Former AL Player of the Week sent down after batting .143 in September

Dalbec hit .339 with four homers and a 1.205 OPS in August

Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, the team announced. The move comes after Dalbec batted .143 with one homer and four RBIs in 16 games in September.

Dalbec, 28, was recalled from Worcester on August 26 and hit well in his first month back in the majors. He batted .339 with four homers and a 1.205 OPS in August, earning him the AL Player of the Week award for the week of August 29-September 4.

However, Dalbec's production has fallen off significantly in September. He has just one hit in his last 25 at-bats and has struck out 11 times in that span.

The Red Sox are hoping that a stint in the minors will help Dalbec get back on track. He is expected to play regularly at Worcester and will have the opportunity to work on his swing and get some consistent at-bats.

With Dalbec optioned to Worcester, the Red Sox recalled infielder Jeter Downs from Triple-A. Downs, 24, is a former top prospect who has struggled to find his footing in the majors. He is batting .211 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 47 games for the Red Sox this season.

The Red Sox are hoping that Downs can provide a spark to their offense in the final month of the season. He is a versatile player who can play both shortstop and second base.
