Hildesheim Invaders eliminated from German Football League playoffs

Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns advance to semifinals after 24-14 victory

The Hildesheim Invaders' season came to an end on Saturday, as they were defeated by the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 24-14 in the quarterfinals of the German Football League (GFL) playoffs. The Unicorns will now advance to the semifinals, where they will face the Dresden Monarchs.

The Invaders got off to a good start, taking an early lead on a touchdown pass from quarterback Sean Shelton to wide receiver Tyler Rutenbeck. However, the Unicorns responded with two touchdowns of their own to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.

Unicorns pull away in the second half

The Unicorns extended their lead to 21-7 in the third quarter on a touchdown run by running back Jordan Johnson. The Invaders cut the lead to 21-14 on a touchdown pass from Shelton to wide receiver Dominik Bentz, but the Unicorns put the game away with a field goal in the fourth quarter.

Shelton finished the game with 215 passing yards and two touchdowns, but he was also intercepted twice. Rutenbeck led the Invaders in receiving with 85 yards on five catches, while Bentz had 70 yards on four catches.

For the Unicorns, quarterback Marco Ehrenfried threw for 185 yards and a touchdown, while Johnson rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Tyler Rutenbeck led the Unicorns in receiving with 85 yards on five catches.

The Invaders finished the season with a 7-5 record, while the Unicorns improved to 10-2. The Unicorns will now face the Dresden Monarchs in the semifinals on October 15th.
